Functional Midwifery is where root-cause medicine meets the art of birth.
As a functional medicine dietitian turned licensed midwife, I walk with you through every season — from the earliest hopes of fertility, through pregnancy, and into the tender weeks of postpartum.
When we prepare the body for pregnancy (the biggest biological stressor of all), we see less pregnancy complications. My midwifery education educated me on how to MANAGE pregnancy complications when they arise but my passion is in the education of how to incorporate PREVENTATIVE medicine into pregnancy care in order to minimise the risk of pregnancy complications like gestational diabetes, cholestasis, preterm birth, pre-eclampsia, and iron deficiency anemia.
In functional Midwifery I aspire to educate clients and birth workers on how to address pregnancy from a root cause approach not because pregnancy is a medical condition, but because when we optimize health we have a better chance of remaining low risk for home birth, the heart of midwifery.
